There are 2000 ewes to check and up to 2000 lambs - I put my hand up and head out. #australianfarming #checkingsheep

The sharp wind is hitting my face but it’s delightful to be out on the bike checking the sheep. The sun is out and the canola is flowering, the crops are thick and a few early blossoms are popping out. There are 2000 ewes and around 2000 lambs to check this morning so I put my hand up for the job and head out on the four-wheel motorbike.  The sheep are spread over a 1400-acre area in three mobs, so I head North rugged up well with my coat and warm layers. The little lambs follow close to the ewes when the sound of the bike draws near. I stay quite a distance away and can see that they are going along well. It looks fantastic out here and I pull up to take some photos. Howard is working on the new horse stables today, so the girls will be excited about that. When I give Howard a hand it frees up his time to do these extra things. It’s nice to get out on the farm and enjoy where we live. Some old gates are hard to swing, twitched by wire b

The Beautiful Things in Life - my garden after rain. #weareawake #thebeautifulthingsinlife

To celebrate my blog reaching over 20000 views I wanted to share something I wrote back in March. Enjoy… We are awake. No room for negativity It never helps No room for criticism It doesn’t encourage. No room for complaining It keeps you stuck. No room for worry It designs a hopeless future. Gently thank the concerns They are only trying to protect you Turn them away They are not needed anymore. It is time to live for today. Now there is space for light And love and beauty and vision, For goals and trying and effort and hope. A place where failure is just an opportunity for growth, A place where each new day Is a beautiful opportunity to realise We are awake We are alive We are wise We are not alone We are capable of great things We have arrived. Narelle Hunter 2/3/14 Thankyou for all those out there who follow my blog

Putting what matters most, first.

It is a soft dewy morning and I head out on the farm for a walk with the dogs. The lush green grass feels like carpet and everything looks so much prettier after the rain. There are white cockatoos, galahs, magpies and parrots throughout the trees. The horses are feeding with the warm sun on their backs. It is a delightful morning to be out taking photos but it is hardly a fitness challenge when I stop so often to take another shot. Yesterday I was walking from Bondi to Bronte in Sydney. The sun rose over the sea as the city steadily came to life. I love going to the parts of the city where nature dominates and takes your breath away. I felt a real connection to the other people who were also enjoying the beach. Some people on bikes, others with surfboards under their arms; dear old locals sitting back after an early swim, as much a part of the scene as the sand, the water, the rocks and the salt. And I was there too, walking with my lovely friend, exch

800 kms for the Harden Polocrosse weekend but well worth it. #hardenpolocrosse #australianpolocrosse

You probably wont believe me when I say that the day started at -5 degrees. The girls had insisted on camping overnight with their grandfather. ‘Its one of the best parts of Polocrosse Mum,’ they informed me, so the swags were rolled out in the back of the horse floats and the campfires were lit. The sun was kind to us by lunchtime though and it turned out to be a really fun weekend for everyone. I can watch the girls charging down the sideline on horseback without feeling too nervous these days. They have beautiful horses that know the game and who seem to look after the girls too. It is interesting to notice the horses play to the level of their rider. They can look like a completely different horse when someone new takes them on. Polocrosse is a fantastic sport to play and to watch. The horses can go from a full gallop to standing in the ‘line up’ at a moments notice. The riders learn how to calm the horse and then activate it again. They w
